Week of Welcome Events
We are always excited to welcome new mustangs to the Cal Poly community during WOW. Each year, we coordinate across LGBTQ Campus Life and our sister centers in Student Diversity & Belonging to host a number of welcome events for students to learn more about community spaces, affiliated organizations, and ways to get involved.
LGBTQ History Month
October is LGBTQ History Month and throughout the whole month, we uplift the heritage of the queer and trans pioneers throughout history. If it wasn't for their resilience, many of the rights we enjoy today would not be possible.
We also recognize OUT Week, a time in which we honor the coming out process and what it has meant to so many people. We share oral histories and our own stories that make up our own unique Queerstory. For more information about navigating the Coming Out process and owning your own story in various contexts, check out our Coming Out Guides.
Lead With Pride
In Winter, we focus on advancing Queer and Trans leadership on the issues that matter. We educate, advocate, and appreciate all the students, faculty, and staff who lead the issues of liberation at Cal Poly. We present our annual "State of PRIDE" which explores and highlights various aspects of LGBTQ Campus Life: See our most recent broadcast below:
Central Coast Pride
Central Coast PRIDE is not only a celebration, but a PROTEST. LGBTQ Campus Life works with the Gala Pride & Diversity Center and numerous other community organizations to host events for our central coast community. Some of the most popular events in the past have been our community drag shows and Pride Prom and here are a few recent events:
We are gearing up to plan an in-person Central Coast Pride for May 2022. If you are interested in serving on the planning committee for Central Coast Pride, please reach out to us as soon as possible as the committee will be formed in the fall term. Lavender Commencement
Each year LGBTQ Campus Life recognizes and celebrates the achievements of graduating LGBTQ and ally students. Lavender Commencement is an opportunity for family, friends, faculty, and staff to recognize and celebrate the achievements of our graduates. It is also a time for the graduates to acknowledge family, friends, faculty, and staff who have supported them through their long journey in search of knowledge and higher learning. More information about Lavender Commencement will be shared later in the spring term but you can see our most recent ceremony below:
